Greenville Partner Receives Salute to Manufacturing Award

South Carolina’s Top Manufacturers Named at 2013 Salute to Manufacturing

Nucor Steel, Cytec Industries and Southern Weaving honored with 2013 Top Awards

 In the Midsized Manufacturer category (200 – 499 employees), Southern Weaving of Greenville was named the 2013 winner. The company employs 212 people, designing and producing innovative high-tensile narrow fabrics used in cargo restraint, safety protection, lifting and other specialty arenas. Southern Weaving, which has increased its employee base by more than 25% in the last two years through a commitment to research and technology, was noted for its creative partnerships with such community organizations as Greenville Technical College, Furman University, SC Works (Greenville), ReadySC, SCMEP, and Personal Pathways to Success (Greenville).

The Transitional Jobs Committee will host a Youth Conference from April 29th-May 1st

The Transitional Jobs Committee will host a Youth Conference from April 29th-May 1st. The conference will be held at the University Center located in McAlister Square from 9am to 2pm. The conference will feature a keynote speaker along with breakout sessions and a job fair on May 1st. The conference will target youth ages 17-24 with and without a barrier.

Aligning Education and Workforce for 21st Century Jobs by Increasing the Pipeline of Human Capital”. The Advance Manufacturers Committee will host a Workforce and Education Summit on May 16, 2013 from 9am to 12:30 at the Embassy Suites located in Greenville.  The committees along with our partners are seeking to engage 200 participants from education and business. At the event, the committee will unveil the K-12 Tier Model and the Education and Industry Map book.

GREC Partners Serve as Volunteers for a Day at Legacy Charter School



On February 14, 2013 15 of the Greenville REC partners served as volunteers for a day at Legacy Charter school. The volunteers taught classes on Soft Skills, Financial Literacy, Advance Manufacturing and STEM to students in grades 5th -8th.

Volunteers included representatives from Gordon Food Services, JA of the Upstate, Kemet, Greenville Technical College, Southern Weaving, Honeywell Industries, ACM-USA, SC Works Greenville, DataNgine and Certus Bank
